I have been teaching art since 1999. My background lies with Art History and a minor in Fine Arts for Painting and Art Education. I also have a Teaching English as a Foreign Language certification and an International Baccalaureate Teaching Certification. Not only do I teach art, I also work with English as Second Language Learners in my school district and work with various arts organizations in the area.
For many years, I worked in an International Summer Camp and I truly embraced the importance of global understanding and being a global citizen. I created a Creative Arts Program at the camp and I also became the Programming Administrator. I feel with the experience I have had with working with not only children from all over the world, but staff, it has given me a unique insight on why sometimes using art as language is key.
To me, art is a universal language. I believe that on any level, art is sharing, and it is wonderful to be able to communicate with people in such a challenging and rewarding way. I have traveled around the world and no matter where I have been, art has always inspired me. I hope my joy of global art as a way for children to appreciate the world is contagious!
